ORGANIC (NO BAKING SODA) NATURAL PROBIOTIC DEODORANT

Body odor (BO) is the result of bacterial activity producing odorous compounds. The skin microbiome, a
balanced ecosystem of beneficial “good” skin bacteria can prevent the growth of other, potentially harmful
microbes. Magnesium (Mg) solutions can have antimicrobial properties, and not be harmful to (body)
tissue (Delbet, 1915), and can highly increase leukocyte activity and phagocytosis (leukocytes, especially
phagocytes, macrophages and neutrophils, can eliminate bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens that can
produce odors). Mg ions can decrease adherence of bacteria to surfaces and impair biofilm assembly. [Mg
(OH)2] magnesium hydroxide is antibacterial, is not acutely toxic, and is eco-friendly; an alternative to
alcohol, aluminum salt, and other ingredients that can be hazardous, irritating or ineffective. Clogged
sweat ducts can lead to acne, infection, irritation, and other skin issues; Mg(OH)2 can (directly) eliminate
bacteria without blocking pores or stifling surrounding skin. The National Research Council concluded
that Mg(OH)2 is not absorbed through skin. Mg ions in Mg(OH)2 can interact with the active site or
binding sites of cysteine-thiol lyase enyzme that converts Staphylococcus hominis into pungent
thioalcohol, disrupting its catalytic function without adversely impacting the dermis (sweat glands, pores,
and hair follicles). It may be safer and more effective than baking soda because it has a larger molecular
structure (enabling more moisture absorption and neutralization of bacteria) resulting in better odor
control; and greater, stable, and prolonged buffering capacity. Skin has a slightly acidic pH, but baking
soda is alkaline. NaHCO3, a highly alkaline substance, on sensitive skin can disrupt this natural balance,
leading to discomfort/irritation/redness. Less alkaline than NaHCO3, Mg(OH)2 may be less irritating.
Lauric acid (LA) in coconut oil inhibits the growth of bacteria by membrane disruption and induces ROS
production, magnifying the outgrowth inhibition effect on spores; [in the human body, LA is converted
into monolaurin with (up to 200x more effectual, Schlievert, 2012) antimicrobial activity against bacteria/
viruses]. Arrowroot powder absorbs moisture and oils, and inhibits growth of microbes. Antimicrobial,
astringent ZnO can eliminate odor-causing bacteria and shrinks pores for less perspiration, absorb excess
sebum, reducing acne and keeping skin dry. Kaolin clay deep cleansing and exfoliating can unclog pores,
absorbs excess sebum without stripping skin of natural oils, leaving skin looking balanced, glowing, and
nourished. Anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant jojoba oil (JO) (see notes below) is healing,
moisturizing, and soothing. JO emollient gondoic acid lubricates, moisturizes, and protects skin.
Noncomedogenic, easily absorbed by skin, helps to regulate sebum/prevents breakouts. Antimicrobial
probiotic (beneficial bacteria) lactobacillus ferment can acidify its environment and produce bacteriocins,
inhibiting the growth of pathogenic bacteria by competing for nutrients, and by producing antimicrobial
compounds; and the probiotic may have an effect on cysteine-thiol lyase enyzme. Not an antiperspirant,
pores not blocked by aluminum salts, the body can naturally cool itself by sweating.

How to use: goes on white because of ZnO, rub it in throughly to avoid the white color from transferring
to clothing. A few swipes underarms (only) will provide up to 48 hours of odor fighting protection.
