Exfoliating with enzymes (from Modern Greek: enzumos). Enzymes, biological catalysts that increase
the rate of virtually all the chemical reactions within cells. Enzymes are proteins that act upon substrate
molecules and decrease the activation energy necessary for a chemical reaction to occur by stabilizing
the transition state. Without enzymes, most metabolic reactions would take much longer and would not
be fast enough to sustain life. Hydrating aloe vera, nourishing coconut oil, jojoba oil (see note below) and
powerful proteases from papaya and pineapple polish skin. Absorbs excess sebum and helps prevent
breakouts. Gently exfoliate skin without causing irritation. Acidic tropical fruit enzymes dissolve dead
skin cells and aloe vera hydrates and refreshes the acid mantle of skin. Soothing gel-based formula,

new cell turnover and skincare products penetrate deeper, boosts circulation, and evens skin tone.
Protease, an enzyme that catalyzes proteolysis, breaking down proteins into smaller polypeptides or
single amino acids, and spurring the formation of new protein products; by cleaving the peptide bonds
within proteins by hydrolysis, a reaction where water breaks bonds. Enzymes break bonds (keratin
protein) allowing dead skin cells to be removed or exfoliated from skin. Alpha hydroxy acids/beta hydroxy
acids (AHAs/BHAs) on the other hand trigger cell death in older skin cells and promote new skin cells to
grow, resulting in older cells sloughing off and newer skin cells taking their place.
Proteolytic enzymes, biological catalysts capable of mimicking the desquamation process of skin, acting as
exfoliants. Peeling skin, desquamation, desquamating skin, or desquamation of skin are all ways of
describing a condition where the outer layer of skin starts to replace itself. Enzymes can exfoliate skin and
improve some desired characteristics of the organ. Papayas have a powerful proteolytic enzyme, papain,
aka papaya proteinase I. Pineapples have a powerful proteolytic enzyme, bromelain. Studies were done to
determine if proteolytic enzymes simply induce superficial exfoliation or if they can alter epidermal and
dermal skin properties (i.e. changes in skin smoothness and texture, the depth and number of lines and
wrinkles, and epidermal and dermal firmness and thickness). Results concluded, significant appearance
benefits can be derived from the use of exfoliative proteolytic enzymes, and improvements are the result
of changes to the epidermis and dermis and are similar to results observed with higher concentrations of
AHAs. Exfoliative proteolytic enzymes are less potent, but more gentle and less abrasive than AHAs/
BHAs in breaking bonds that hold shedding skin cells together. Vitamin C in açaí drupes (berries) can
promote healthy cellular turnover; shedding old, dead cells; and the production of new skin cells,
beneficial for proper exfoliation. Vitamin A in açaí drupes does not exfoliate skin helps slough off old skin
cells faster from the epidermis, helping to prevent a buildup of old skin cells, and revitalizing skin.

How to use: Apply a thin layer to cleansed face every 3-5 days. Rinse off after 10 minutes with lukewarm
water and pat dry with a soft towel.
